The middle manager is often the glue that keeps organizations together, serving as that bond between upper management and workers. Yet you won’t find many books or training that focus solely on the special needs of the middle manager.
Author William Thomas Jones aims to fix this with Middle Management 101, a guidebook for the middle managers among us looking to be a more productive and successful team leader.
Jones offers techniques for common management duties such as empowering and rewarding your team and recruiting the best talent possible. He stresses the importance of communication so people at all levels know what’s going on.
You don’t have to feel like you’re “stuck in the middle” just because you’re a middle manager. Take steps to become a happier, more effective leader who motivates your team to be empowered and enjoy their jobs. Middle Management 101 has you covered, including how to coach and reward employees, run meetings, and more.
This book is a tribute to the “fixers,” the unsung heroes who tackle problems by viewing them from the perspectives of both upper management and workers. Grab a copy, and let’s get to work.
Middle Management 101 Zen in the Art of Middle Management eBook William Jones
It's not often that I review books prior to completing an initial read. But this book is exciting! I remember early on in my own career, which involved managing large teams of temporary employees hired to complete complex and highly choreographed turnkey projects, we would always have a team review meeting after day one. The questions were very basic; can these guys do the job or not. What we learned over the years was the critical factor had less to do with leadership and more to do with the"middle" of the team. Were they smart, motivated and caring enough to do the job. As Mr. Jones points out in this book, the "Middle" is critical. Middle management, often derided and laughed at as a personification mediocrity is in reality where things get done. Like the non-commissioned officers of the military, they form the backbone, the framework or foundation for everything within the organization. Most of us find ourselves in this organizational tier fairly early on. Many of us stay there throughout our careers. This is a simple matter of mathematics more than performance. You can have a brilliant middle management career, achieve financial success and do great things. This book explains how to achieve, maintain and deliver excellence and personal success from the vantage point of the middle management career. Well done Mr. Jones!Product details

Middle Management 101 Zen in the Art of Middle Management eBook William Jones Reviews
As a retired middle manager, I wish the practical advice contained in Middle Management 101 Zen in the Art of Middle Management had been available many years ago. It is apparent William Thomas Jones has “been there” and had been taking notes of what works and what doesn’t. Being a middle manager is a tough job and many organizations offer little in the way of development beyond posters with inspirational platitudes. During my working days, our company had a slogan directed toward middle management “Make it happen and make it fun”. Easy to say, but how? At last, here is how you do it.
Excellent guide for managers new to the game or even those seasoned veterans looking to refresh their outlook. No gimmicks, just common sense advise, especially chapter 8, "Things NOT to Worry About." I have the Vonnegut quote from page 58 on my wall. "Another flaw in the human character is that everybody wants to build and nobody wants to do maintenance." It nails the organization I am part of right between the eyes! I'd recommend organizations make this mandatory reading for every new, first time manager in their organization.Quick read and an excellent reference guide.
